There are, of course, very few clean, pure genres. For instance, is the Twilight saga really horror or is it more teen angst and romance with vampires and werewolves added in for seasoning? What about Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise? Sure, it’s a bunch of pirate movies, but it’s hard to deny its horror underpinnings. And what about the Battleship movie? Okay, so that might be a tad off topic, but it’s still scary that it got made.
What we’re trying to say is that while we didn’t include some would-be horror films in our list and included one that’s sort of iffy (Gremlins), here’s a look at the top-grossing horror films of all time at U.S. theaters, inflation-adjusted to make it fair.
