Retailers Share Feedback, Photos from Halloween ComicFest 2013

The Halloween season is an ideal time for comic book specialty shops with its emphasis on costumes, the otherworldly, and supernatural tales. To celebrate all that these shops offer, Diamond launched Halloween ComicFest - now in its second year -  to draw customers into stores during the scariest season of the year.

As feedback and photos continue to come in, check out what many retailers around the world had to say about this year's Halloween ComicFest. Based on reactions from retailers, customers, and industry professionals, the buzz behind this industry event is continuing to grow!

Here’s what some retailers have said about the second annual Halloween ComicFest:

The cold and wind couldn't stop the fun at The CORE in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Reviewing his event, owner Mike Blanchard reported a huge turnout, but what made it special was, "The smiles on ALL the faces!" he explains. "The kids believed and that's what makes it all worth the cost, time, and effort!" The CORE provided free comics inside, while outside they have facepainting, The Balloon Man, a live DJ spinning spooky tunes, Garbage Pails Kids artist Steve Potter doing sketches, and their own 2nd Annual Halloween Costume contest!

Don't take his word of it. "It was great to be a part of a gathering where everybody has a common interest and enjoyed each others company. Thanks to Mike and crew for a simply splendid time!," wrote CORE customer Larry Duenas.

"Me and my family had an absolutely WONDERFUL time. Thank you Mike and everyone at The CORE and those who came out and allowed my little ones to take pictures with you. This even draws the perfect mix of people who all come with fun, happiness and good times in their hearts and minds," added customer Warren Wortham.

Anthony from Alterniverse gives us the details on the Salt Point, NY's store celebrations:

"We had an in-store costume contest, candy, comics and an in-store signing, all while playing the usual Saturday tournaments and games we regularly host"

"We gave out gift certificates and trophies to funniest, "most-scary", and BEST all around costumes. I took pictures of our entrants with the HCF button and want to enter all of the contestants into Diamond's The Greatest Costume Contest Ever. And, I have to say, as you'll see with the couple of photos,  below we may have to have more categories for costumes in the future!"

Lee Hester of Mountain View, CA's Lee's Comics talks about his well-attended event: "We had our Halloween party on Saturday, October 26th at our Mountain View CA location. We decorated the store and had an assortment of creepy props; the Hanging Man, "Sparky", and "Stretch", as well as a spotlight out front. We gave away Halloween Fest Comics, food and drinks and held a costume contest with prizes. Inside the store, we had Halloween music playing, and a presentation of  classic spooky animation clips. Everyone had a great time!"

Fantasy Realm owner Randy Sauve reported more than 300 people crowded in his store during the second annual Halloween ComicFest. "The turnout exceeded my expectations," he said. In addition to the free comics, Fantasy Realm hosted some of the stars and the producer of Heroes of the North - Web Series. The Cornwall, Ontario event garnered such buzz that Cornwall Seaway News wrote about the event in the article "Canada's online superheroes drawn hundreds of comic fans."
