Retailers Share Feedback, Photos from Halloween ComicFest 2014 (5)

Look below to see what some retailers did for this year's event!

Pittsburgh Comics - McMurray, Pennsylvania

We had the books to give away, candy, cookies and apple cider too. A sale on all "horror" related books and a costume contest.

TimeZone Gaming - Fords, New Jersey

During comicfest we ran numerous sales, had a local artist named Leo Alban doing Halloween characterchures of customers, a costume contest and had cupcakes and cookies for everyone. Everyone who showed up had a great time and gave use wonderful feedback for the event. This was our first ComicFest and we are looking forward to next year's event.

Cosmic Comix & Toys - Catonsville, Maryland

This past Saturday was Halloween ComicFest and we want to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came by and joined in the fun! From kids to adults and everyone in between, we had hundreds of people celebrate with us that day! A special thank you as well to Grizzly Gambit Gaming and local comic book creator Kevin Hock for helping to make the day that much more special.

Of course, a big part of the experience were the Costume Contest and the Pumpkin Painting Contest! We asked our customers to put on their best Halloween duds and/or to bring a pumpkin painted in a comic book theme with the promise of a $100 gift certificate to Cosmic Comix going to the winners!

The Comic Book Shop! - Wilmington, Delaware

When my husband and I bought our shop, The Comic Book Shop! in Wilmington, DE, in 2010 we started doing a two-day Halloween event called Halloweekend Spookabration! The last weekend in October we give out free comics, host comic creators, goody bags to those in costume, and have a weekend-long costume contest!

I'm really proud of how we do our Costume Contest: We want to make sure everyone has a chance to participate in the contest AND the voting, so you can come any time during the weekend and we'll take a picture of you in costume. Then we post all the pics in the shop for the following week to a) allow everyone who comes in The Shop a chance to vote on the costumes and b) gives each costume a longer life! So sad to get all geared up to only wear it for a few hours. We have Kids 12 and Younger, Adults, and Group categories, but sometimes we have to add more groups depending on what kind of costumes we get! Prizes are a grab box of comics and toys, including a set of HCF comics.

This year we had creators sketching and signing both days and a huge slate for Sunday:

  •   Star Wars 501st Garrison Carida at 1pm
  •   Storytelling Art Class with Bob Petrecca at 2pm, ages 13+
  •   Learn to Draw Class with Luke Petrecca at 2pm, ages 6-12
  •   Paper Toy Monster Workshop at 3pm
  •   Paper Toy Monster Battle Arena at 4pm

My favorite part of this weekend was the girl, Olivia, who had her first experience at a comic book shop and won the Paper Toy Monster Battle Arena!  There's a pic of her and some other favorites below.

Thanks for another great year!
